American Library Association Holds Annual Conference

The American Library Association is holding their annual conference this week in Chicago to discuss the issues being faced from reduced financing to libraries. All across the country local governments are cutting funding to libraries in an effort to save money. Conference Director Deidre Ross says these cuts come at a time when more people are using library's. Ross says people use libraries for their Internet connectivity and frequently search and apply for jobs online. Ross said the big challenge that the librarians are working to solve is how to provide the same services with less funding.

All is not doom and gloom at the conference though, the fifth annual book cart drill team championships were held Sunday and the University of Pittsburgh Librarian team came in third place. The book cart drill team competition is a choreographed dance routine that uses book carts. This years winners were from Oak Park Public Library in Oak Park Illinois.
