Fort Duquesne Bridge Restoration
Thanks to federal stimulus money, the Fort Duquesne Bridge now has appropriate funding for it to be restored. PennDOT Spokesperson Jim Struzzi says they would not be able to fix the $23.3 million in vital improvements without the stimulus money at this time. Struzzi says the maintenance is needed to keep the bridge in good shape. Improvements include work on latex overlays, bridge painting, steel repairs, resetting rocker bearings and the 16 ramp structures that interchange with the bridge. The work, expected to start later this month or in early August, will have lane closures, including some full bridge closures during weekends. Struzzi says there is not a set schedule yet, but it will be announced in the coming weeks.
