State Dept. Of Environmental Protection To Set Standards For Controlled Burns
Legislation approved by the State House, Senate and Governor calls for the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to work with the Department of Environmental Protection among other groups to develop standards for prescribed burning. Prescribed burning is the controlled burn of vegetation and foliage to reduce the risk of wildfires and reduce unwanted vegetation. Spokeswoman for the Department of Environmental Protection Teresa Candori says the state will examine other standards and procedures for controlled burns that are used throughout the U.S. to develop its policy. The legislation calls for standards to be set within 6 months.
