10 Pittsburgh Students Back from China

A group of 10 students and 5 adult members of Urban Youth Action are back in Pittsburgh following a two week trip to China. Urban Youth Action, an organization which helps guide young African-Americans toward a successful life, selected the 10 high school students based on essays they wrote as well as their commitment to the words in those essays. One of the students, Brian Lawson, a sophomore at Woodland Hills High School, says they studied Chinese culture for about 3 months prior to the trip. Lawson said they had many opportunities "to mingle with the locals" and explore their surroundings. "We got to see the (Great) Wall of China, which was pretty cool." Lawson says he feels much more grateful for what he has after seeing some of living situations in China.
The purpose of the trip was to help the students learn more about cross-culture business. Pittsburgh-based companies such as ALCOA and P-P-G set up tours of their Chinese facilities for the students.
