Census Bureau Releases 2008 Population Numbers

The United States Census Bureau has released population numbers for the year 2007-2008. Pittsburgh once again lost population but at a rate slower than at the start of the decade. Allegheny County also saw a small loss in population. Director of the State Data Center Sue Copella says even though Allegheny County lost population some areas saw strong growth at a rate higher than the state.

Of the National highlights New Orleans was the fastest growing city in 2008 as its population gets closer to pre-Katrina levels. Copella says the growth in New Orleans was expected as more people are able to return to the city. New York city tops the list of most populated cities with over 8.3 million people, with Philadelphia in 6Th place on the top ten list of largest U.S. cities.
