Gaming Revenue Climbs Again

The number of Casino operating in Pennsylvania grew in the last fiscal year and so did overall income from the slot machines. The 08-09 budget year ended with 8 casino operating and total state revenues from their activities hitting $964.7 million. In the previous year there were 7 casinos operating and the state’s take totaled $772.6 million. That is a 25% increase. Of the five casinos that were open in all of the 07-08 and 08-09 fiscal years 4 saw revenues increase. Harrah’s Chester Casino and Racetrack saw its numbers drop 4%. The Meadows Racetrack and Casino saw income jump 14.4% from $231.2 million in 07-08 to $264.5 million in 08-09. The state's fiscal year ended Tuesday. Income from the casinos was one of a very few state income streams that increased over the year.
