Protest Groups Attract Attention Downtown

In addition to the march in Oakland today, protest groups appeared around various locations downtown today. Members of the March 4 Freedom carried Ethiopian flags as they chanted messages opposing that country's prime minister, Menes Zenawi. Spokesman Kassa Ayalaw says Zenawi has violated the human rights of Ethiopians and should not have been allowed to attend the summit.

Members of Oxfam International wore masks of world leaders' faces to oppose what they say is a lack of attention to social justice issues like hunger and poverty. Oxfarm members held signs with messages like "No Time to Talk About Poverty" and "Poverty: Not on Our Agenda."
