The Allegheny County Health Department and the Pennsylvania Resources Council have teamed up to sponsor a drop-off collection event for electronic waste and other hard-to-recycle items.
The event will be held this Saturday, September 26 at the Kennywood Shops on Hoffman Boulevard in West Mifflin from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Some items will be collected free-of-charge, such as cell phones, ink and toner cartridges, compact fluorescent light bulbs, alkaline batteries, crutches, canes and walkers.
Other items, such as televisions, computers and VHS/DVD players will be accepted for a nominal fee ranging from $5 to $35.
The waste will either be refurbished or recycled in an environmentally-friendly fashion to protect public health and the environment from exposure to toxic chemicals.
For more information, call the Pennsylvania Resources Council at 412-488-7490, ext. 236.
