Harris Remains on Ballot

Allegheny County Judge Joseph James today threw out a lawsuit challenging the nominating petitions of Pittsburgh independent mayoral candidate Franco "Dok" Harris. That means that Harris will remain on the November ballot along with the incumbent, Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and another independent, Kevin Acklin.

Three supporters of Acklin challenged thousands of signatures on Harris' petitions. Most of the challenges focused on whether the people who signed the petitions were registered to vote or residents of Pittsburgh. An attorney for Harris agreed to strike 1,500 names from the petitions and Judge James ruled that enough of the remaining signatures were valid.

Harris said he was glad that "this mostly frivolous lawsuit is behind us. I find it a little reprehensible that our opponent has already questioned the judge's ruling."
