According to a local employment survey, things are beginning to look up some in the final quarter of the year. Kelly Scott, a western Pennsylvania Regional Director of Manpower, says their survey shows steady levels of hiring and maintaining current pay rolls, at 11 percent and 75 percent, respectively. The survey shows a hiring increase in specific job sectors.
“Stronger hiring trends [are] in manufacturing where there’s non-durable goods. Wholesale and retail, and obviously that will be coming from the holiday season,” Scott says. “Education and health services… continue to be in a hiring trend.”
She says the most optimistic sign is the hiring in manufacturing. She adds that it is a great indicator of things turning around with more hiring in store for the future, as it has shown in past recessions.
