Vice President Joe Biden says the Obama administration will continue to do all they can to support labor and stem job loss.
Biden spoke at a rally at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh today prior to the start of the annual Labor Day Parade. He told the union workers and supporters in attendance that the economic stimulus package has worked well in Pennsylvania, keeping thousands of teachers and police officers at work.
Biden says laborers have been treated unfairly in the past decade, with the average wage of the middle class family dropping $2000 a year. He says the Employee Free Choice Act, which would make organizing a union easier, is a top priority for the Obama administration.
Executive Vice President of the AFL-CIO Arlene Holt-Baker says unions support this move and proposed health care legislation. She says “a public option wouldn’t be bad,” either.
