The American Civil Liberty Union of Pennsylvania and The Center for Constitutional Rights have filed a complaint on behalf of The Thomas Merton Center and other local activist groups who feel they are being denied their first amendment rights by not being allowed to march through downtown Pittsburgh and up to the convention center during the G-20 Summit at the end of this month.
They were also denied an encampment or protest permit in Point State Park while The Alliance for Climate Protection got a permit to set up in the park for the Wednesday before the summit. They say it sends a message that certain voices are more important than others.
Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said he is working to protect the protesters civil rights.
